Autumn is in the Air

September 25, 2008 — by Lindsey Charlton

If I knew your name and address, I would send you a bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils.

- From “You’ve Got Mail”

I wish I had a picture of some freshly sharpened pencils to put in this post, but alas, I probably only have three pencils in my possession at all. That would be a scanty bouquet indeed. Kind of depressing, really.

I don’t know about you, but I make more resolutions in September than I do at New Years. You’re supposed to make resolutions at New Years, which is probably why I don’t do it. Plus it’s the middle of winter. It’s cold. I don’t want to go running three miles a day in winter. You know? No way.

But September smells nice and still feels nice. There is still daylight to use and enjoy. There is still time. There is school starting back up. And there are bouquets of pencils, the very image of what autumn is about: good smells and productivity.

I’ve started a few new projects since September began: making a quilt, singing in a chorus, piano lessons, wedding planning, trying real cooking for a change … I’ve even started gathering ideas for this November’s NaNoWriMo.

I’m not in school, but I’m still going to be as productive as if I was. Maybe even more so.

What about you? Any autumn resolutions?

Personally, Autumn is my least season of the year. It is more like a transitional period than an actual season. Many of my bad memories took place during this season. I guess I better wait until New Year to make my resolution.

Sometimes the truth is
Not what you want it to be.
Is it ever what you expected?
No, probably not.
Are you okay with that?
Are we meant to create truth or
Are we meant to find it?
