Get to work!
Unfortunately, Inspiration does not come to us where we have firmly planted ourselves on the couch or whichever preferred location we have chosen. We have to do something about it. Inspiration wants to help you, she really does. But she’d rather meet you at your level, not at a couch potato state. Are you trying to find the Inspiration to write a novel? Do you need to learn how to make a wedding cake by the end of the summer?
Start somewhere, start small.
Begin by just making a journal entry. Get your thoughts flowing.
Set limits for yourself.
Tell yourself you’ll write for two pages, or for 10 minutes. Show yourself you can do it!
Then aim a little higher.
Keep making your goals one step above your last mini-goal you achieved.
Inspiration is like a muscle.
You have to lift weights to tone, you have to be writing daily to build that writing muscle. You need to be baking and decorating smaller versions of that cake. Find blogs, books, magazines about what you’re trying to do. This engages your mind and may bring external ideas and inspiration to attaining your goals.
Practice, Practice, Practice.
You wouldn’t run a marathon without training, would you?
Everyone has different methods.
What are some ways you get your head in the game?

I’ve found that trying to beat the clock is a great way to summon the creative beasties. If you give yourself say, fifteen minutes to work and no more you’ll be surprised when suddenly you look up and an hour has flown by.
Great post, Jacqueline!
