The Back Page is where the feet go up on the desk at the end of the day. It’s that good book with a mug of hot cocoa just before bed. It’s where we goof off after a hard day’s work. The Back Page is our blog.

Author, Illustrator, and Guerilla artist, Keri Smith blogs too! She doesn’t overwhelm her blog with tons of information. Instead, she provides small and innovative ways to inspire her blog readers with simple, creative tips. I didn’t know what guerilla art was until I read her site: “Guerilla art is a method of art making which entails leaving anonymous art pieces in public places.”

It’s almost like the concept of sending a message in a bottle, or leaving nice messages in sidewalk chalk. Just make sure you’re not vandalizing, though.

I once used the tip to create a collage out of random objects found throughout a day. My collage consisted of: a broken zipper, a paper clip, a plastic fork, a cork, a broken cigarette, a clothespin, a campaign sticker, an unused bandage, and a piece of tin foil.  This took no extra time out of the day, all it did was make me more mindful and aware of my surroundings.  In the long run, I hear, this helps us enjoy life more.

I love Kery Smith’s blog. Especially 100 Ideas and How to feel miserable as an artist. I am guilty of at least four of the ways she lists.

Sometimes the truth is
Not what you want it to be.
Is it ever what you expected?
No, probably not.
Are you okay with that?
Are we meant to create truth or
Are we meant to find it?
