Not to be Frivolous,

March 26, 2008 — by Jacqueline

but I have been extremely tired of looking at the same To-Do List on my wall. Just a plain piece of college-ruled notebook paper hanging from my wall with a list of nice stressful list. To-Do lists can be so dreadful, especially when you have huge projects listed in a row for the next week. This little innovation transpired from the need for some humor amid the To-Dos watching over me.

In my proactive spirit, I set off into the rest of my humble abode to search for a new medium.

Unexpected

Lo and behold, the toilet paper. I also considered dinner napkins, but they were printed, thus distracting and taking away from simplicity.

Toilet Paper. I tore off a section and quickly found two markers. On each section, I wrote a To-Do. On the perforated lines, I dotted lines across to divide the To-Dos more visually.

Now, as one of my friends kindly noted, I have toilet paper hanging from my wall. How is that not funny?

On a more practical note, when each To-Do is completed, I can just tear off one of the sheets and flush it down the toilet. And hopefully, the list will become shorter and shorter with the passing time (you know, since we complete tasks as the days pass).

Every time time I look at the list, I’m laughing at the oddity and maybe even the absurdity.

Don’t Wait Around

Sometimes we have to create our own humor. I’m convinced that self-induced laughter is the best kind. When I don’t have the time to actually sit down to be artistic, I find ways to be creative with the tasks at hand. I needed a new To-Do List, so I created a new kind.

WOW! To do lists…..I’ve learned they go on, and on, and on…through life. Us detailed people needs these lists to give us structure. A very long time ago they stopped giving me a high when I could cross something off, or in your case, tear it off and flush! I’m happy you mentioned the laughter…because when I can’t laugh out loud then I know I’m letting life live me.

That is an excellent idea, but isn’t it rather difficult to write on toilet paper?

And it works only if one has a specific order to your tasks. Otherwise, one would have to tear off a section in the middle, which would create a problem.

Well, at the time, it wasn’t really about the difficulty. I was extra careful while writing so the toilet paper didn’t tear. The task still was rather brief, though.

What you say is correct about the specific order. I ran into that dilemma the next day. With some more innovation, I just tore off the task in the middle, and taped the others back together with a tiny piece of tape.

I probably won’t continue the toilet paper to-do list, but for the circumstance, it was fun and took out the stress of the daily grind.

Sometimes the truth is
Not what you want it to be.
Is it ever what you expected?
No, probably not.
Are you okay with that?
Are we meant to create truth or
Are we meant to find it?
