Where the Mind Sprocket staff writes about inspiration, communication, culture, storytelling, and more.

The Back Page is where the feet go up on the desk at the end of the day. It’s that good book with a mug of hot cocoa just before bed. It’s where we goof off after a hard day’s work. The Back Page is our blog.

My sister goes to art school. She does a lot of artwork for Mind Sprocket, and does all kinds of crazy art for school - things that involve sculpting meat and sewing herself into a homemade strait jacket and piecing together neat fabrics.

I’m not an artist. I don’t know about any of these things, though I enjoy hearing about them and seeing them in person. I write words, and I play music. But there are some times when I want to do things with color, or see something new and different in my living space. The problem is that I know so little on the subject of making awesome things out of everyday materials.

But I made a bold move, and here was the result:

Green paint

I had walls that needed to be painted. It was my chance to be spontaneous and bold, so I walked into Lowe’s, walked right to the green colors, and chose one. Past wall colors have been pale blue … white … pale yellow … white … but this was vibrant! It was alive! It would change my room - maybe even my life!

I will now have to decorate my living room according to this color, which means I will have to purchase curtains with flair, a rug with a lively character, wall art that says dare to put me on your wall. Neat. My artistic need will be satisfied.

There are people who create with words, colors, and sound. I am discovering all the time that it is difficult to try to isolate myself to only one of these things … and chances are that if you’re creative in one of these capacities, the other two are somewhere nearby, too. Don’t be afraid to be bold and go with it!

I find that particular color a little too bold for me. Maybe a nice blue with white or silver base boards but green? I hope to see your apartment fully decorated as i can’t imagine how you will manage that. But i’m pretty confident you will.

It’s actually a nice color. Fits perfectly with Spring.

Thank you both for your comments. I appreciate the feedback, as thinking of myself as some kind of artist is a new thing for me!

Sometimes the truth is
Not what you want it to be.
Is it ever what you expected?
No, probably not.
Are you okay with that?
Are we meant to create truth or
Are we meant to find it?
