I noticed a bunch of people making life-changing choices lately, mostly job related. I quit my job last week. So did two of the attorneys at the same company. Then I found out a secretary also quit. Then today I found out that a friend at another company resigned from her job.
I don’t know what’s in the air, but it got me thinking about why we make life changes, and why we make them when we do.
For example, I had been thinking about leaving my position for at least three months. I thought about it and thought about it, and justified staying, and justified leaving, back and forth again and again. And then finally I realized that I could do it and things would be okay – or, rather, they would be better. Better! I could make my life better! I know that there were many aspects that led me to go through with it, but I’ve narrowed it down to these few big ones:
1. Find a rational friend to sit and listen to you – someone who will say a few useful things; not just offer heaps of encouragement. Encouragement will get you through the week, but will have run out by Sunday night.
2. Know that now is the most inconvenient time ever. You don’t feel financially sound enough. You want to make it “just until the end of the year.” There are too many things in your personal life going on that need to be taken care. Someone you love is going through a hard time and needs you. Making a big life change will just have to be put off until there’s more time.
But …
3. Know that now is the most convenient time ever. It’s a new year. It’s the start of Spring, when everything is fresh and new and coming to life. It’s the beginning of Fall, when school is back in gear and the sense of productivity is in the air. You just paid off your car. You just moved to a new town. You just fell in love. Things are new and changing all around you; why not add one more thing to the pile?
A change in your life will always be at an inconvenient time. But it will always be most convenient when you realize how change can benefit all aspects of life.

True enough..some changes occurs normally in an unconvenient time but then its benefits would later on be realized.

Likke…I also left my job a few months ago to be full time here in the internet. First few months seems to be full of regrets but weeks past and i see how good that decision was.
