Maybe you’ve been thinking about getting an online journal, but have hesitated to do so since it would be … so unlike a journal.
Traditionally, journals have been classified as “private”. So why would you get one online? Online = everyone in the world knows, so it’s really a huge contradiction, right? Right! You can work that out on your own, actually. In the meantime, here are some online journals that I have had experience with in the past, and still have experience with even in the present.
This isn’t the prettiest site, but it gives you what you need. Entries can be public, private, public to some and not to others…and if you get the Pro account, you get lots more benefits! This is the place of my first-ever online journal (good luck trying to find it…I’m not giving any hints!)
This online journal lets you play with HTML a little bit, so you can feel a little bit like you know something about website design and layot … and makes the journal feel a little more personal, like it’s something of yours that you created. The overall basic design is really clean and pleasant to look at.
I had one of these long ago and liked it well enough. If I was to start another online journal, I’d probably revisit this site. They were pretty tidy and had some great color schemes!
If there are other online journal sites that you think are awesome, let us know! I know I’m always interested in seeing where else I can post my thoughts to the world while disguised under a screen name! ;)

Xanga is a page online that should be filed along with myspace. Cluttered and over filled i found when i used it that i was being friended by intimidating strangers who happened to have the same color scheme and found that was a basis for beginning an online friendship.
Xanga happens to think that you want to have ads on your blog, forcing them upon your page. But that’s alright because, though there are other alternatives that are more customizable and better features, they are after all providing a second rate service for free. That said, there are better ways.
As one who uses wordpress.com as an online journal and production blog, i can heartily recommend it for simplicity yet full control and customization along with many designs that would please the heart and desires of all people willing to put their life online.
If you want to connect with people online, or have a blog, or just goof off i would say just get facebook, wordpress, and gmail; the ultimate tools to spending time online without realizing how much has gone by.
Oh, and Mind Sprocket, but that at least has value.

Peter of the Atkinson: Thank you very much for that bit of feedback! It seems that things have changed since I have been part of the world of Xanga, so I am very grateful for the input.
